A timeline of long-term educational exchange since 2014

Hoi en Dream’s work in international education did not begin with a single programme, but through a gradual accumulation of partnerships, experience and trust. Below is a narrative overview of how our work has evolved over time.

Since 2014 | University Cooperation & Academic Exchange

From the beginning, we have worked on building cooperation between Chinese and Dutch universities and research institutions, supporting a range of academic exchange activities, including study visits, thematic programmes, and summer schools.

Over the years, partners have included institutions such as IHE Delft Institute for Water Education, Leiden University, TU Delft, and other universities and research organisations in the Netherlands.

Milestone (2019): We supported and contributed to the successful delivery of TU Delft’s first summer school in China (2019), which remains one of the most meaningful highlights of our university-level cooperation work.

2015–2024 | European Summer Campus (Evolving into fully international summer programmes)

In 2015, we launched the European Summer Campus, originally designed for Chinese students to visit Europe, explore universities, and participate in workshops and academic activities.

The programme evolved steadily over the years. In 2025, through cooperation with local partners, it developed into fully international summer camps in the Netherlands and France, welcoming students from multiple countries and educational systems.

What stayed constant was not the format, but the principle: academic exposure, cultural depth, and care in programme design.

2016–2020 | Sino–Dutch Secondary School Friendship & Homestay Exchange

Starting in 2016, we initiated Sino–Dutch secondary school friendship programmes, supporting long-term partnerships between Chinese and Dutch schools.

This programme helped build friendship school relationships between more than 10 secondary schools, and ran with a reciprocal exchange structure. Students visited each other during school holidays, often through homestay arrangements, allowing them to experience everyday life and school culture from the inside.

Participating Chinese schools came from cities including Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Xi’an, and Suzhou. The programme continued until 2020, and was consistently well received by schools, students, and families, until international mobility was disrupted by COVID.

2016–2020 | China Inbound Programme

Alongside outbound exchange, we also developed the China Inbound Programme, welcoming international secondary school students into Chinese schools and communities.

The programme combined classroom participation with cultural immersion, and became a meaningful complement to our outbound exchanges until the pandemic interrupted international travel.

Since 2017 | Study Abroad Guidance & Educational Pathways

Since 2017, we have expanded our work to support Chinese students and families with study abroad planning and educational pathways, including:

  • international secondary school options

  • undergraduate applications

  • master’s programmes

  • long-term academic development planning

We have supported students from mainland China, Taiwan, and overseas Chinese families in finding programmes that match not only admissions criteria, but also personal development and future direction.

Since 2025 | Academic & Career Development Support

In 2025, we further expanded into study support and career development, working with expert partners and running online sessions to help students already in the Netherlands navigate academic challenges, personal adjustment, and early-stage career planning.
